CBS studios at Beverly and Fairfax has a great history as well. The studios was built in 1952 on the famous Gilmore stadium where the professional “Hollywood Stars” baseball team would play. Such great baseball stars that played were like, Joe DiMaggio, Ted Williams and Billy Martin. The team was owned by such big stars such as George Burns, Greacie Allen, Gary Cooper, William Powell, Bing Crosby and Cecille B. DeMille. But back to more history, one of many shows that were taped at the Beverly/Fairfax were the Carol Burnett show, The Sonny and Cher, The Ed Sullivan Show(where the Beatles made they did their first US show).

I have been into the CBS Studios several times for several shows. It is a great experience to view live TV shows. I have seen such shows for free such as “The Price is Right” with Bob Barker, The Hollywood Squares and Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher. And if you are a big soap opera fan of “The Young And The Restless” and “The Bold and The Beautiful” you may get a peek at a few of the stars going and out or just hanging out in the back for small time chatter.

All the tickets are free to get to see the shows. There are several ways to get free tickets. One way is to drive to the CBS studios on Beverly and Fairfax and walk to the ticket window. The ticket window is open 5 days a week from 9 AM to 5 PM. You pick the show, the date and what time(several shows do several tapings per day). Another way to get free tickets is of course to do a search via the net, there are many services out there that you can order tickets from. Or you can call directly to the studios, which is: 1 - 323 - 575 - 2458. And if you are a local of the Los Angeles area, many studios hire temporary agencies or firms to hire what many call in the industry as “Audience Paticipants”. Yes indeed they do get paid. You may not know who they are in the audience because one of the rules is they can not tell others they are there to fill seats and to get paid.

If you want to see a listing of the television shows that are not affected by the 2007 - 2008 writers strike. Here is the listing as of January 21, 2008. Reports are coming in that some studios are actually closing in on deals with the writers union. Many believe the strike will relatively end at the end of January 2008. Here is some information about CBS television show dress code, parking, arrival time and attending the show.

Kiefer Sutherland will soon take off his orange jumpsuit. He has spent the last 48 days locked up and will get out of Glendale City Jail Monday morning. “He’ll be let out the front door just like everyone else,” according to Officer John Balian.

Kiefer was in jail for his second DUI conviction and for violating probation, The 24 star spent his birthday, Christmas and New Year’s at the Los Angeles-Glendale Jail.

Actor Gary Collins is also in the Glendale Jail for DUI but his cell is in another area.

Britney Spears did it again. Back in the celebrity news. She can get as popular as Mike Myers Movies. Ok, so she is a hotter topic at the moment. Some people are saying she is off the wagon. But many reports are saying her issue is more of a mental one than a chemical issue. Reports are saying she is at Cedar Sinai Hospital in West Los Angeles for a medical hold(5150 Hold). A 5150 hold is given to both patients that are on a suicide watch or a drug overdose. She will be given a drug test as well get pyschiatric evaluation.

K-Fed’s bodyguards were sent to Britney’s home on January 3, 2008 to pick up the children for K-Fed’s turn to have the children. The bodyguards were to pick up the children at 7 PM. Britney refused to turn the children over to K-Fed’s people. Apparently the LAPD were called in after Spear’s was not abiding by the court mandated custody agreement. There were about 5- 8 LAPD officers, 2 ambulances, 1 police helicopter and the fire department

During the visit from the police, LAPD allegedly said Britney appeared to be under the influence. She was than transported to Cedar Sinai for a possible 72 hour hold. K-Fed’s and Britney’s 2 year son Sean Preston was also sent to the hospital. It is said that Sean Preston is home safe with his father now.

A hot spot for great laughs is the Downtown Comedy Club in Los Angeles. It is hosted by Garrett Morris, former Saturday Night Live(SNL) cast memeber. Yes, indeedy Morris hosted the entire show and had his own stand up moment as well.

Tickets run for $15.00. In which you may purchase online at the Downtown Comedy website. But I was able to purchase mine for a discounted price at Goldstar for roughly $5.00 plus a service fee of $3 or $4.00. The comedy shows are typically on Friday and Saturday nights and start roughly around 9:00 pm or so and runs approximately 2 hours. Age mininium is 18 and over.

The comedy club can be found in the Hotel Alexandria’s Charlie O’s bar (at Fifth and Spring streets). The decor of the club reminds me of something that Frank Sinatra would sing at. It had that kind of feel to me. A very nostalgia type of moment. In addition the comedy club is a smoke free environment as well.

And if you want to do something prior to the show. On Spring street is Gallery Row. There are small galleries one may view many up and coming artists. There are plenty of bistro’s and sidewalk cafe’s to visit.

The night I went, the headliner was Jason Stuart. There were five other acts that went on. In addition there was a house band by the name of Eden Tree. Before the show started one of the bartenders got up and asked two questions from the audience. If you got one of the questions right you would get a free alcoholic drink. They also have wonderful sliders(baby hamburgers with caramelized onions and mustard) and a great chicken nachos.

The experience overall is great. All the acts were great and the sounds that Eden Tree provided were worth the money. The ambience of the club gives one a feel of the Frank Sinatra 50’s club feel. So if you are ever looking for a great place at a inexpensive price to go to on the weekend in Los Angeles, I would recommend the Downtown Comedy Club.

Kiefer Sutherland who potrays federal counterterrorism agent Jack Bauer on “24,”is serving 48 days at the Glendale City Jail in Glendale, Calif., a Los Angeles suburb. Kiefer began his sentence on December 5, 2007 for DUI and a probation violation and has celebrated his 41st birthday as well as Christmas in custody. There are no plans for early release. “Sutherland will be serving the 48 days in the Glendale City Jail, with no early release and no good time/work time credit, so we expect that he will serve the entire 48 days in jail,” according to a released statement.

The 24 actor, who is housed alone in a cell, has also been assigned to serve meals to other inmates. Sutherland spent his first full day at Glendale City Jail folding jail laundry.

The Glendale jail is a minimum security facility with 48 cells, each of them measuring 10 feet by 8 feet. They come equipped with two beds, a toilet, washbasin and water fountain, but Sutherland won’t be sharing his cell with anyone. Inmates receive one cold meal per day and two hot meals. A variety of meals are served that range from corn flake cereal to meatloaf, turkey sandwiches, macaroni & cheese dinner or a Chicken ala King meal.

“Pay-to-Stay Weekender Program”

The Glendale City Jail offers a Pay-to-Stay Program for qualified men and women who have been sentenced to serve time in jail, offering an alternative to serving time in the Los Angeles County Jail.

Jennifer Love Hewitt joined the Los Angeles Mission at the annual Christmas event to help spread holiday cheer to skid row. Hewitt and nearly 400 volunteers distributed Christmas toys and dinner to thousands of homeless men, women and children at at the Los Angeles Mission at 303 E 5th Street from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“I have made it a point to come to the Los Angeles Mission at Christmas,” said Hewitt, who stars in the TV show “Ghost Whisperer.”

“There are so many hurting people on the streets of our city, but when I’m here I get to see the smiles of the children and the great food for everyone. I think they are getting real help from the staff and volunteers. I come to give something back, but invariably I get more blessing than I give,” she said.

The menu included rotisserie chicken, glazed ham, three-cheese macaroni, mixed vegetables, dinner rolls, cranberry relish and chocolate cake for dessert. Santa was on hand to greet the children and pass out gifts donated by area businesses and individuals. The mission expected to serve about 3,000 meals and give out more than 1,000 gifts to 600 children.

The Los Angeles Mission mission serves the homeless living on the streets of downtown’s Skid Row by providing shelter, food, clothing and professional medical and dental care. In addition, the Los Angeles Mission also offers long-term residential rehabilitation programs through its Urban Training Institute, including education, job training, transitional housing and counseling.
